Riebeck, one of your fellow voyagers among the stars As such, this single player game is great with a regular spectator- which is exactly what happened once I got home. Yet the actual fun itself is in uncovering the mystery of this galaxy. The game features no combat, only exploration, puzzles and some light platforming/piloting. The quest becomes a search to discover how and why this is happening. Your character is aware of their death, too. At which point you will wake up at the start of the game again, but with all your knowledge from before. However! This I guarantee – before the half hour mark, you’ll have died. You leave with only a few clues and directions from your friends on the ground, and can go wherever you want. Outer Wilds casts you as a space-faring explorer about to set off on their first flight. The wonder of this game is in its exploration after all, and it’s a shame to spoil it. Not at all! For those of you unfamiliar with Outer Wilds, I’ll try to only explain so much as to get the premise across. It's just a game that was made to be made. So, is Outer Wilds like The Outer Worlds or.? The game was not created to introduce you a new gameplay, or to tell you a good story. Gameplay is a copypaste, artstyle is a copypaste, and the scenario is just stupid. But they have, as we say, farted in a puddle. Overall: Obsidian tried to make something on their own, something theirs. And you cannot remove helmet from your party member. People around you look alive, until you do something serious, and they react just a bit, just like in Bethesda games, which feels like another copypaste of other game's stupidity. And why tf are there no beautiful women and no smart men? Well, that's a thing a lot of people have already spoke about, but I must say that the "agenda" didn't really bother me, I didn't even noticed any feminist propaganda or something, and yet NPCs around me looked too disbalanced in that matter. Even with mods it's still barely bearable. No, really, I've upgraded my PC recently and now I have no texture lags or anything like that, and STILL there're plenty of hardcoded filters and distance loading limitations that make the game look blurry as hell. The crafting is stupid, Unique items make no sense and graphics are f-ing soap. The copypasted gameplay of Fallout 3 (yet with a lot of limitations), party management from ME and the artstyle from Bioshock. It is a pity that in 15 years they did not move the bar one bit. Overall, Obsidian simply repeated itself instead of coming with some innovative and new concepts, regarding storytelling, game design, role playing, player advancement etc. I spent some points on speech skills early on, afterwards starting distributed them randomly. The abilities you and the NPCs obtain are, in my opinion, pretty much irrelevant to gameplay. All your decisions as the protagonist fall somewhere within this single dimension. The socioeconomic and political structure is one-dimensional. Except for some colorful exteriors all of the graphics seemed to be copied from KOTOR. The gameworld (physical interiors and exteriors plus politics, belief system etc.) is very shallow. You keep on fighting three types of enemies, they all have similar tactics, you only click the left mouse button. The combat is in a CRPG for me very secondary, however I still found it extremely tedious here. Compare this to the NPC interaction on KOTOR 2 for instance. There wasn't a single piece of dialog with them that interested me. The NPCs were also mostly one-dimensional caricatures: the sweet, insecure engineer, the drunk boisterous hunter, the swashbuckler doctor and so on. You can still get a taste of the good writing Obsidian is known for, but the overall story so uninteresting and your protagonist is so lacking in background that you simply don't care. Also, every nook and corner in the game is full of loot containers, it is crazy. Midway through the game I stopped swapping the weapons and armor of my character and those of the NPCs and I stopped opening any containers for loot. In bullet points: - The inventory system is horrible. And boy was I disappointed! It is a poor imitation of New Vegas, in space. And boy was I was really excited about this game, as Fallout New Vegas and KOTOR 2, both from Obsidian, are two of my all-time favorite games.
